About Us

Firefly Carrboro was originally known as The Original Ornament, which believe it or not, was located on the famous Franklin Street in Chapel Hill at one point before making its home in Carr Mill Mall. Eventually, The Original Ornament became The Bead Store and around 2009, The Bead Store became Firefly Carrboro. Despite all the name changes, the store has continued to stay true to its commitment to keep the local community and beyond creative and inspired! From advanced beaders to new beginners. Even if you're not a beader, we have and will always continue to be here for your repair needs, or your "Shop Handmade" needs!  

Firefly Carrboro is now owned by Melanie Jackson, a native of Pittsboro, North Carolina. Located just down the road from Carrboro. She took over the shop in January 2020. When she's not staying busy with her two young boys, you will find her staying quite busy at the shop! This shop would not have been possible without the support of her two boys and husband, Brandon.

If you are wanting to learn beading techniques or schedule a party for you and your friends, Melanie will be more than happy to guide and teach you!

If Melanie is not at the shop when you stop in or give the shop a call, employees, Sidra, Jessica, Samantha or Gracen will be around to help you with questions, repair needs, and more.

Here at Firefly Carrboro, we sell a huge variety of beads, jewelry supplies, parts, components and tools for jewelry making as well as locally made art, fair trade beaded gifts, and more! We are also available for jewelry repairs or custom projects!
